Discover Yarm’s heritage through a self-guided walking route across the High Street and riverside.
What is the Yarm Heritage Trail?
The trail is comprised of 14 stops that go through the main High Street, the side streets and across to the bridge. It is recommended to visit all stops of the trail and read the plaques on each of the buildings, as well as the brief history presented on the pages throughout this site.
The trail can be completed in full or explored in smaller sections, making it suitable for visitors, residents, and anyone interested in local history.

Time and Distance
The full trail takes roughly 45 minutes to complete at a relaxed pace, depending on how long you spend at each stop. The route follows a walkable path through the town centre and riverside.
Start Point: This trail begins at the Yarm end of the High Street. If you enter from the Eaglescliffe/Yarm Bridge end, walk up the High Street to the first stop.

Accessibility and Safety
Parts of the trail include cobbled surfaces and uneven ground, particularly along the High Street. Visitors should take care near steps and slopes, especially in wet weather. The route also passes close to the River Tees, so extra caution is advised around the riverside.
